Dear Boys and Girls,

        Hi!  My name is Mrs. Roche and I am so excited to be your First Grade Teacher! I am looking forward to getting to know you during the year.  First Grade is a very fun and exciting grade and I know you will love all of the new and different things we are going to learn.

This is my fourth year at Westridge Elementary.  My husband, Mr. Roche, and I live in with our cat, Jack, in Lakeridge, just a few minutes from our school.  We love to go running and swimming at the pool.  We also like to travel to all kinds of places.  I can’t wait to hear all about the things you like to do, too!

I LOVE to read and I hope all of you do too because we will be reading a lot this year!  When you read a book, you can travel to lots of places and meet new people without ever leaving your seat. I like to read books about all kinds of things.  We will have books about many different things in our classroom library and you will have lots of time to read and see which ones you like!  You will read books written by authors like Jan Brett, William Steig, Shel Silverstein, Dr. Seuss, Tomie DePaola and more!  I hope you’ve been reading a lot and visiting the library all summer long.  That’s one of my favorite places to go!

In First Grade we will be learning many new things.  In math, we will investigate and play lots of games to help us learn.  We will do science experiments and learn about the things in our world during social studies.  We will have special writing workshops and so much more!!  We do lots of fun activities in first grade like 101^st Day, a Mother’s Day Tea, a field trip to the zoo and we will even take a ride on the Polar Express!

I can’t wait to see your smiling face in our classroom every morning!  I am so excited to learn more about you.  We are going to have a wonderful year in First Grade!
